Frequently
Asked
Questions
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a professional and collaborative process where a trained therapist helps a you explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
What can I expect from the first session?
Going to therapy can be a scary thing for most people, but trust us, it isn’t.
In the first session, you will get to meet your therapist and they will also get to know you!
The therapist will also explain how therapy works, discuss confidentiality and consent, explore your presenting concerns, and set a goal of what you would like to work towards. You will also have the opportunity to get to know your therapist as well and to ask them any questions that you may have.
How many sessions do I need?
The answer depends on the individual. We suggest having at least 6 sessions, so that you and your therapist can really get to know each other and have enough time to work on your goals. 6 sessions allows for enough time for the therapist to get to know you, for you and the therapist to reassess what is working, what isn’t and make adjustments to get to where you want to be.
Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes, we do offer telehealth sessions. These can be done either over the phone, or online via Zoom.
Please note that we do not offer a web chat therapy service.
Are sessions confidential?
Everything you say during your session is confidential. However there are some limitations, and the therapist may have to break confidentiality if:
You are at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others
The therapist suspects abuse or neglect towards a child, older person, or a person with a disability
Required by a Court of Law
In addition, we may discuss cases with our supervisors for our professional development. Rest assured that you will be anonymised and de-identified during these discussions.
Do you offer private health insurance rebates?
We currently do not accept private health insurance’s or provide medicare rebates. However hopefully we will have this established at a later date.
How long do sessions go for?
Individual sessions go for approximately 50 minutes, whereas couples and family therapy sessions run for approximately 60-80 minutes.
Why do I have to provide an emergency contact?
It is a part of our duty of care to prioritise your safety and the safety of others. We may need to contact someone in the case of emergencies, or even as a way to check in on your wellbeing if we haven’t heard from you in a while.
What if I am not able to afford for sessions?
We understand that financial pressures can be a barrier to accessing counselling. We believe everyone deserves support, and we strive to make our services as accessible and inclusive as possible. Please reach out to our team to discuss available options .
